Common Questions

How do I calculate forex position size?

Position size is calculated by dividing your intended dollar risk by the distance between your entry price and stop-loss, converted into pips, then divided by the pip value for that pair. This calculator does that math for you automatically — just enter your account balance, max risk, entry, and stop-loss.

What is pip value and why does it matter?

Pip value is how much one pip of price movement is worth in dollars for a given position size. It varies by pair and lot size, which is why a fixed lot size doesn't give you a fixed dollar risk — you need to calculate it per trade.

What's a good risk:reward ratio?

A 1:2 ratio or better is commonly used, meaning your potential reward is at least twice your risk. This means you can be wrong more often than you're right and still be profitable over time. Use the Risk:Reward tab above to check any trade before entering it.
