Journal Setup Guide
STEP 1
You're already signed up — start here
Since you're reading this inside the app, you've already done Step 1. If you're setting up a second account later, the sign-up form only ever asks for an email and a password — nothing else.
STEP 2
What a brand-new Dashboard looks like
On a fresh account you'll see: one account called "My Account" (rename it anytime), a Starting Balance placeholder of $10,000 and Max Loss per Trade placeholder of $40, a Performance Summary full of dashes, an empty Trade Calendar, and no Prop Firm Status card at all — that only appears once you set limits in Step 4.
STEP 3
Set your real Starting Balance and Max Risk
In Account Settings, replace the placeholders with your real numbers. Max Loss per Trade has two linked fields — a $ amount and a % of balance — type into either one and the other updates automatically. This single setting drives automatic lot sizing everywhere else in the journal.
STEP 4
Set Prop Firm Limits (optional)
Trading a personal account? Skip this — leave both fields blank. Trading a funded challenge? Enter your firm's two rules as percentages: Max Drawdown % (e.g. 10 for a 10% rule) and Daily Loss % (e.g. 5 for a 5% rule). A Prop Firm Status card then appears automatically, tracking your usage against both limits from your logged trades.
STEP 5
Check Pair Settings before logging any trade
Your account already has 11 common instruments pre-configured with the correct pip size and contract size: EURUSD, GBPUSD, AUDUSD, NZDUSD, USDJPY, USDCHF, USDCAD, XAUUSD, US30, USTEC, and USOIL. If everything you trade is in that list, skip to Step 7.
STEP 6
Add a pair that isn't already listed
- Click + Add Pair in Pair Settings — a new "NEWPAIR" row appears.
- Rename it to the exact symbol your broker uses, e.g. GBPJPY.
- Fill in Pip Size, Contract Size, and Quote = USD? using the table below.
- It saves automatically and now appears in the Pair dropdown in Trade Log.
| Instrument type | Pip Size | Contract Size | Quote = USD? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard pair, no JPY (e.g. GBPAUD) | 0.0001 | 100000 | 1 if it ends in USD, 0 otherwise |
| Any JPY pair (e.g. GBPJPY) | 0.01 | 100000 | 0 (never USD-quoted) |
| Gold (XAUUSD) | 0.01 | 100 | 1 |
| Stock indices | 1 | Check your broker — varies | 1 (usually) |
| Oil / commodities | 0.01 | 1000 | 1 |
| Crypto | Check your broker | Check your broker | 1 (usually) |
For indices and crypto, contract size genuinely varies by broker — there's no universal standard. Find the exact numbers under your broker's "Contract Specifications" or "Symbol Specifications" page, often via right-clicking the symbol in your platform's Market Watch.
Quote = USD? in plain terms: read the pair as BASE / QUOTE. If USD is the second currency (like in EURUSD), set this to 1. If USD is the first currency instead (like in USDJPY), set it to 0.
STEP 7
Log your first trade
Go to Trade Log → + Add Trade. Fill in Pair, Side, Strategy (or add a new one), Entry Date, Entry, and Stop. The moment Entry and Stop are both filled, the Lot (auto) column calculates itself — the exact size that makes your Max Loss setting true if the stop is hit. Type your own number into that field any time to override it for just that trade.
STEP 8
Close the trade when it's done
Come back to the same row and fill in Exit and Exit Date (and Commission, if any). R:R, Gross PnL, Net PnL, and Net % all calculate instantly, and the row tints green or red. Use Comments to note anything worth remembering — these notes feed directly into your Trading Review.
STEP 9
Watch the Dashboard update itself
Every closed trade instantly updates Performance Summary, the Equity Curve, Win/Loss split, PnL-by-Pair and PnL-by-Strategy charts, the Trade Calendar, and Prop Firm Status if you set limits. Nothing needs a refresh or a save button.
STEP 10
Use filters to review your trading
The filter bar above Trade Log lets you narrow by Pair, Strategy, Side, Result, or a Min/Max Net P&L range — combine as many as you like, and hit Clear filters to reset. Click any day on the Trade Calendar to jump straight to that day's trades.
STEP 11
Add more accounts, if you need them
Trading a demo account or a separate prop firm challenge too? Click + Add Account at the top of the journal. Each account has its own balance, risk settings, and trade history — Pair Settings stay shared across all of them.
STEP 12
Optional: install it as an app
Look for the Install App button in the header on Chrome or Edge. On iPhone, tap Safari's Share icon, then "Add to Home Screen."
